Rock Climbing Camera Tracking System (Concept)

Rock Climbing Camera Tracking System

General Information:

I like to rock climb and sometimes I want to film myself and share my climbs with my friends, but it is awkward to bother someone so I wanted to create a tracking system. In order to design this I need to define what I want to do for this project: -list requirements-

Objective:

The objective of this project is to design and assemble a tracking system for rock climbing a 51-ft wall

Complexity of the Project:

The place where I rock climb is my on-campus rock wall, and it is 51 feet tall. Ideally when I climb the wall I want to send a signal down to a ground device that will rotate my phone's orientation.

Hardware I am currently considering are:
  • BMP180 - Barometer Pressure Sensor
BMP180 Soldered pins
    • This device can sense altitude
  •  Arduino Nano - Microcontroller
    • Will communicate and execute programs connected
    • Nano would be ideal for climbing since it is smaller than an Arduino Uno
  • HC-05 - Bluetooth Module
    • Allows wireless communication between the climber and ground device
Mechanisms I am currently considering using:
    Worm gear and wheel mechanism
